POROS (POROS Organization of Open Source) is a student organization at the Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Brawijaya, centered around open-source software, GNU/Linux, cybersecurity, and DevOps. Since it was founded on October 9, 2012, POROS has been a place where students can learn, grow, and collaborate while building technology that is open, legal, and impactful. At its core, POROS aims to be a supportive and inclusive environment where members feel encouraged to develop themselves and work together in meaningful ways. The organization is guided by three main values: being competent, collaborative, and contributive. These values shape how members learn, share knowledge, and contribute to both the organization and the wider tech community. With the tagline “#InTheSourceWeTrust,” POROS believes that open-source technology plays an important role in shaping a digital future that is transparent, secure, and beneficial for everyone. This belief is also reflected in its motto, “In Fonte Fiducia” or “Securely Building the Future,” which highlights its commitment to creating technology that people can rely on. POROS is made up of two main departments. The Organizational Development Department focuses on strengthening the organization itself and building relationships, both internally and externally, through its Public Relations, Human Resource, and Creative Media divisions. On the other hand, the Research and Development Department focuses on helping members sharpen their technical skills, especially in DevOps and cybersecurity, through its DevOps and Security divisions. Beyond its internal structure, POROS regularly holds activities like seminars, workshops, study groups, and Capture The Flag (CTF) competitions. It also works on internal open-source projects where members can apply what they’ve learned in real situations. Through these efforts, POROS continues to build an active and engaging learning environment, helping students become more confident, capable, and ready to keep up with the fast-changing world of technology.
